The Teachers |
Ms. RohanAs a writer, I am interested in many things: the intricacies of nature, the beauty of life, the relationships we create with others, ourselves, and the world. I love to write poetry and blogs that encompass this lore, and it is my absolute pleasure to teach it. I am enthusiastic about language, how it moves, enhances, and informs. The truth is that I am not just a writer, or teacher. Learning how to observe, employ and express myself has made me many things. My name is Courtney Rohan. If you are reading this, I am probably your English or yoga teacher. I have been teaching for 13 years now, from places as far reaching as New Hampshire to South Carolina. I have moved from north to south, and east to west coasts teaching the whole time. As a youth, I was trained in music as a vocalist and as a writer at a performing arts school in Connecticut where I grew up. (FUN FACT: I am originally from Windsor, a small town in Connecticut. This is especially weird to me since I have moved across the country, yet here I am, still in Windsor.) So, not only am I a writer and teacher because of my certifications to teach English and yoga; I am an enthusiast, a mover, a shaker, a wife, a mother, and a whole bunch of things in between. You’ll see. You can contact Ms. Rohan anytime at [email protected]. |

Ms. Kaiser“Who are you?!” were the words spoken by a colleague after she had observed me animatedly teach a class. As soon as the bell rang, I transformed into a completely different human. Previously, she had only known me in the outside world, which is an environment where I’m incredibly shy. Inside the classroom I feel alive and confident. It is how I know I’m meant to teach. As a bonus, I’m allowed to share my passions. Actually, I’m supposed to share them, so that’s a win for me. Some of my “supposed to” passions include Astronomy, Meteorology, and Geography. If you want to get me talking outside of class, bring up Harry Potter, the paranormal, fandoms (yes), or travel and you’ll have to cancel your schedule for the day. I’m an AME newbie, but I feel lucky to be a part of the program at Windsor High School. Everyone is an artist in some form, but AME has a higher than average concentration of students in touch with their artistic side, which is an exciting and unique community to be a part of. I believe it’s a myth that a person is wired more for science or art. I’m pulled towards both and attempt to marry the two within my science course. Fun Fact: In high school, I was a quiet band student who only wanted to sit in the practice room and play my clarinet all day. I struggled in science, so I took the minimum science courses to graduate (just two!). My Biology teacher wrote in my yearbook, “Bio was a good challenge for you. You can do it! Believe in yourself and aim high!” I ended up moving abroad to earn a Master’s degree in a science. So, to all of my young artists who are unsure about science, you can do it! Believe in yourself! |
Mr. RichardsHello, my name is Mr. Richards - I am a middling guitar player, a novice percussionist and fervent doodler. I love bright colors in muted tones, and I spend way longer editing photography than is actually necessary. I am lucky enough to teach English in the AME Academy at Windsor High School. My classroom is designed to help students think critically and establish confidence in their own independent analysis and voice. I believe that we can suss more history out of pulp comic books and 8-bit video games than we could ever find in a plain old text book. My class is not about finding answers, it’s about learning how to ask questions. You can contact Mr. Richards anytime at [email protected]. |
